Risky Youth Behaviors - What's Really Going On?

The Monadnock Alcohol and Drug Abuse Coalition (MADAC) and the KHS Guidance Department invite you to an event at Keene High School on Wednesday, March 31st from 7pm - 8:30pm to discuss "Risky Youth Behaviors - What's Really Going On?".

The event will include a presentation on the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) that was administered in 2009 to all high school students in Cheshire County, as well as breakout sessions for participants to find out more about ways to get involved in these issues.

MANY Networking Meeting

Thank you to everyone who attended the free Presentation on Friday, October 9th, 2009 from 10am - 12pm at Stonewall Farm in Keene on Bullying with speaker Dr. Malcolm Smith from UNH Cooperative Extension. There were over 60 people in attendance, representing schools, mental health agencies, parents and community members.

MADAC Annual Meeting

MADAC held its Annual Meeting in Septmeber and the main topic of discussion was the Drug Free Communities grant. MADAC has been awarded a federal grant from the Office of the National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration (SAMHSA). The grant will be used to hire a fulltime coordinator for the coalition, as well as to implement several strategies to help reduce underage binge drinking.

MADAC Meetings are open to the public and new members are welcome.
MADAC meets on the 2nd Monday of each month at 4pm at the Keene Public Library, 60 Winter Street, Keene, NH.

Youth Forum

Over 150 parents, school personnel, and community members came together to talk about underage/binge drinking and other high risk
 behaviors on Monday, October 19th, 2009, at Keene High School.

The forum was co-sponsored by the Monadnock Alcohol and Drug Abuse Coalition (MADAC) and the Keene High School Guidance Department.

2009 Kids Keene on Safety Camp

The 2nd annual Kids Keene on Safety week-long summer camp was held at Trinity Christian School in Keene, NH. Forty-two campers, ages 6 to 9 years old, learned and practiced safety exercises including exiting a smoke-filled house, bike riding safety, what to do if your canoe overturns, electrical safety, rescue breathing, and animal handling safety.

2009 Summer Youth Employment Program in Keene, NH

The City of Keene’s Summer Youth Employment Program (SYE) is an opportunity for youth ages 14-15 years old that reside in Keene, NH to gain work experience through a paid part-time summer job. The Summer Youth Employment Program has the cooperation of City Departments who provide work sites and youth supervision.
This summer, 19 fourteen and fifteen year olds are working part-time for six weeks throughout seven departments of the City.  Their jobs included maintenance, cleaning, recycling, library, grounds keeping, and clerical work.
